Last week's herbal harvest: lavender, sage, rosemary, chamomile, oregano, lemon balm, thyme, french tarragon, peppermint. These are hung in a cool, dark place, or they go directly into paper bags. Once dry, the leaves and/or flowers are ground up and stored in glass jars until it's time to make more: laundry detergent, kitchen/bath scouring scrub, or hand scrub powder. I always harvest with respect to the creatures who may need these, leaving some plants or flowers behind for them and for next time. BTW - gentle, subtle chamomile is SO high maintenance! But I think we'll have enough harvested to last quite a while. We had been running very low on chamomile. AND - a word about french tarragon. It's a pain in the arse to grow and harvest, but it's so delicious in my hand scrub that it's worth it! And the extra that winds up in my kitchen is delectable.
